Overview:

Toyota demonstrated that the relationship between scope, time, and cost is not fixed and that it is indeed possible to deliver more, in less time, with less money, and at a higher quality.

Achieving this doesn't mean overloading teams with more work; rather, it involves examining how work is done and refining the process to eliminate wasted effort. By reducing unnecessary work, teams can focus more on what truly adds value, leading to greater output with less effort and improved quality.

This talk introduces the Penta co-created by Tom Gilb and Al Shalloway as a framework for designing a more effective value creation and delivery approach. By focusing on five key elements scope, values, efficiency, resources, and designs organizations can tailor workflows to their specific context. Ultimately, value delivery can be reframed around meaningful outcomes rather than rigid, predefined outputs.

Why you should Attend:
Learn ways to deliver more value in less time, with less cost, and more quality.

Deadlines are real and can't be dismissed as "not Agile."

Separate yourself from those complaining about too much deadline pressure and learn some insights that will help you meet those deadlines.

Areas Covered in the Session:

  • What's not being looked at when you think it Iron Triangle is real
  • How Toyota broke the triangle
  • Introducing the Penta by Al Shalloway and Tom Gilb, to create value by design

Based on the Penta. Amplio uses a "Value by Design" approach to eliminate waste and speed up delivery. The value by design approach suggests to design your system so that you can apply your resources (including your capabilities, time, and budget), efficiently, to create as much value as possible so that you meet your business objectives. Scope may change from its original statement to deal with competitive and constraining forces consistent with the stakeholders’ values, success criteria, and constraints. This, however, should be in line with the original objectives of any particular project.

Who Will Benefit:
  • Developers
  • Consultants
  • CTO's
  • CIO's

Speaker Profile
Al Shalloway is the founder and CEO of Success Engineering and the lead designer of Amplio. He had been a thought leader in the Agile space before the Agile Manifesto and was asked to attend its 10-year anniversary because of his work with XP, design patterns, Scrum, Lean, and Kanban. As a former gold sponsor, SPCT, and contributor to SAFe, Mr. Shalloway is familiar with the most popular Agile methods. He is also the creator of PMI’s Disciplined Agile Value Stream Consultant workshop.

Amplio is a transformation system to improve any organization by first identifying symptoms, then doing an analysis to create a diagnosis, then creating an action plan based on the diagnosis and then implementing it.
