Ruth M Bell PhD, FIFST, MSoFHT, RFoodSM, RPFAM - She is a Food Safety/Quality and HACCP Management Consultant, Auditor and Trainer, based in the United Kingdom. Having worked in the food industry, she has held positions in product development, technical services and quality management in a variety of dairy backgrounds, including ice cream manufacture, cheese manufacture, milk and butter processing. Her particular areas of specialism are Food Safety and Quality Management Systems based around HACCP/ISO Standards and private quality assurance schemes.
Ruth has worked on a number of projects helping organizations throughout the food chain to design, develop, implement and verify manageable food safety systems, tailored to their needs. Ruth is well known for her practical Quality and HACCP knowledge as an auditor, consultant and trainer. She has advised numerous companies in the setting up of both Quality and HACCP systems, supported by threat and vulnerability assessment, crisis and business continuity management to ensure food safety throughout the food chain. Support included advice on procedures, best practices and requirements of both legislation and industry standards such as ISO, GMP, ISO 22000, BRC, IFS, FSSC 22000, Allergen and Farm/Feed Standards. Ruth has worked on several UNIDO capacity building projects in food safety in East Africa, India, Sri Lanka and the Far East.
Ruth also acts as a second and third party auditor, auditing against ISO 9001, 22000, FSSC 22000 and BRC Standards. Ruth delivers ISO22000 Lead Auditor, Auditor, Food Safety, HACCP, TACCP/VACCP, GMP, Allergen Awareness, Health & Safety and Nutrition training to the food manufacturing, food packaging, health food and supplements and food service/hospitality industries.
She has worked as a part time lecturer on the MSc HACCP programme at Salford Universty and RSPH examiner, and currently delivers some lectures on the BSc (Hons) Food Engineering programme at Leeds Beckett University. Ruth holds a PhD, MSc, BSc (Hons), PG Dip, PGCE and Lead Auditor qualifications, is a Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST), a Member and former Secretary of the IFST Scientific Committee and registered with the IFST as Food Auditor and Mentor. Ruth is also a member of SoFHT.
